MRC Track Day July 2019Other good results on the bike front include the sale of the big modern Morini road bike, which has freed up loads of space in the garage, and getting Sally's Morini 3 1/2 back on the road after a 6 year absence for repairs that had been held up by the constant need to rebuild the race bikes. I have also fitted a pair of panniers that we bought for it at least 10 years ago. So, off to Cadwell for the track day, with all three race bikes in the back of the van. For once we got to the camp site in plenty of time for a meal in the attached pub, and got to the circuit (about three miles up the road) suitably early the next morning. The first two sessions revealed problems, a dying battery on the Cub and a dodgy ignition switch on the Daytona. With the battery swapped for a brand new one bought the previous week and the switch bypassed, two enjoyable sessions followed before lunch, and in the afternoon we finally managed to fire up the Morini too by borrowing someone else’s more powerful starter rollers. While not quite able to keep up with bikes half its age and twice its size, nor Chris Chapman's Rob North Trident on which he has won a championship or two, it proved more than a match for the rest, satisfyingly blasting past both the person who sold it to me and the person who sold it to him. The current engine has a phenomenal spread of power making it easy to ride fast. I am now entered for two proper race meetings, the first at Three Sisters in Wigan next month; I went there for a track day many years ago and it was fun on the Daytona – being small and wiggly it will suit the Cub too, and it will be interesting to see how the Morini goes there. Then I hope to catch some sunshine on the road Morini before preparing for Cadwell again at the end of September. Will both the weather and the bikes behave? It does sound unlikely, I admit...
