Beer & Pretzels 2012
This year's event was considered by some to be the best yet - with over 300 people on Saturday we just squeezed everyone in without resorting to the emergency extra hall, and with a more ordered layout of the tables in the main hall navigation was easier than last year. The Cannock club filled the stage with role-players and there was a 10-strong group playing T&T at the far end of the hall, next to the Hordes of the Things tournament, as popular as ever despite the rules being out of print. In between there was an immense variety of board games being played and the usual impressive miniatures wargames laid on by John Martin and Instant Armies, the latter also having a busy time running the Bring and Buy for us. The board game library was exceptionally well used and thanks to everybody for keeping it in good order; Sally started it off well laid out and it pretty much stayed that way, despite over five pages of games signed out and back in. In the back hall we had the Yu-Gi-Oh and Vtes tournaments in their usual positions, with more board games in the remaining space. Magic: the Gathering players took over a corner of the bar, as is also traditional. We had been worried about the effect of the Town Hall car park now being Pay & Display, but having spread word about the importance of picking up the free parking permits in advance or upon arrival there were no problems reported. The rise in beer prices caused some consternation but some swift negotiation brought it down a bit - the Council now take a cut of the bar takings and we have to live with the consequences as best we can. We have been able to maintain the range with Pedigree, Halcyon Daze and the Stout all going down very well - and all locally brewed. As for Sunday... I was away at Thundersprint, getting my worst result so far but the weather was splendid. I returned in time to help dismantle the games library and total up the ticket sales, Sunday was just a little quieter than last year but still a nicely full hall. The food and beer finished somewhat sooner than they should, I have been promised that that will be rectified next year. From here on I'll let the pictures do the talking, except to mention that the feedback about Autumn B&P was decidedly positive, so it will go ahead on 3/4th November, the Town Hall, food and beer are all booked. With Midcon in Derby the following weekend, some people are planning a whole week of beer and games. What more could you want?
